6/1: Athens Arrival

ABOVE: The Parthenon atop the Acropolis

Well, we arrived safely in Athens after one nearly-critical weather delay in Nashville that roasted us on the tarmac for an hour. I kidded Annie that our wedding was too perfect for SOMETHING not to go wrong. At least Mother Nature waited until our honeymoon to throw some storms and hail in our path.

We took the Metro from the airport (14 EUR for 2, total) to the Acropolis stop on the red line then navigated our way to the Hotel Divani by 7pm local. We had enough daylight to walk the perimeter of the Acropolis, and saw the new Acropolis Museum(looks great from outside!), then ate dinner on a patio restaurant in Plaka. I had moussaka and Annie had pastitsio--are you enjoying my play-by-play? We split bread and a Greek salad, with two cheap glasses of wine: total 24 EUR.

We returned to our hotel after a stroll through Plaka to discover I had cankles! The long flights gave me some distinctively swollen ankles, which, combined with my clogged ear (also from the flight) and nose(due to post-wedding immune system breakdown) makes me feel like quite the invalid.

We made plans to figure out this blog thing to keep concerned family and friends updated (and maybe jealous) of our travels. Hopefully in the coming days I can figure out how to post with photos and links to albums from this funky new iPad (a generous wedding gift from Annie's cousin Paul Grayson).

I popped some Nyquil and we hit the hay early to be somewhat rested for our 7:25 ferry departure for the island of Santorini. Cyclades, here we come!
