7/10: Domestic Bliss

After another good breakfast downstairs to start our day, we descended into Wengen for some bargain-hunting--but none was to be found. Even though out of season, Wengen still considers itself a ski resort, with ski resort prices. Pity.

Above: Too bad this place is ugly in the summers.

We walked through town to the train station info office, and I inquired about timetables and excursions to Jungfraujoch for tomorrow. It seemed like we would have a fairly consistent day of sunny weather, so tomorrow seemed perfect.

Above: Today wasn't bad either.

On our way back through town, a rainstorm threatened, so we ducked into a diner for lunch: ham & cheese for Annie, brat & bread for me.

With our major excursion tentatively planned, we returned home, grabbed our laundry, and ventured out again for the laundromat. I sat while the clothes were washing, and Annie went shopping for a toboggan fashionable enough for her to justify paying nearly 40€ for it.

The laundry was smooth sailing until we tried using the dryer. Our clothes were still soaked after an hour, so we tried another half hour. The stuff was still damp, but we had to give up because we didn't want to miss dinner and there was a woman waiting for us to finish using the one available dryer in town.

It felt like we were in that small, dank room ALL day. Two hours later, nearly 9pm, we left with our damp clothes, hoping there there would still be a restaurant open and serving food. The early shutdown of restaurants here still took some getting used to for us.

We were pretty much left with the diner we patronized for lunch, or a couple pizzerias. Everything else had stopped serving food, so we located the nearest pizzeria, and had beers at the bar while the chef prepared our Take Away prosciutto pizza.

Carrying our laundry and our dinner home, we scarfed down the pizza in our room while folding laundry. We are SO domesticated!
